American Civil War
Davis, John W------Husband of Rosa Ann Splawn served in Company F of the 24th Arkansas Infantry and Company C of the 22nd Regiment, Hardy's Arkansas Infantry. He also served in the Confederate Navy from 1863 until the end of the war. He died in 1875 in Arkansas. Rosa then moved to Ellis County, Texas with their children. Rosa received a Widow's Confederate Pension in 1899 from the State of Texas.
Splawn, Benjamin A------Benjamin served in Company K of the 10th Texas Cavalry. He enlisted on September 25, 1861 as a private. The March-August 1862 muster rolls notes that his company is West of the Mississippi River but that B A Splawn is absent. He was discharged on August 19, 1862 for medical reasons (chronic diarrhea and general disagreement of the digestive organs). In the "Certificate of Discharge" he is described as five feet five inches high, sallow complexion, grey eyes, auburn hair and by occupation when enlisted, a farmer.
Splawn, Charles P------Charles served in Company K of the 10th Texas Cavalry. He enlisted on September 25, 1861 as a private. He was promoted to Corporal on July 1, 1862 and Sergeant in August 1862. On the March-June 1863 muster rolls, it is noted that he is absent and sick in Atlanta, Georgia. He died in Hospital #21, Atlanta, Georgia on June 20, 1863
Splawn, James------James served in Company K of the 10th Texas Cavalry. He enlisted in Texas on October 31, 1861 and re-enlisted 12 months later. James died at the end of 1862 in Pinebluff, Arkansas. His father later claimed his pay that was never drawn.
Splawn, John Andrew------John served in Company C of the 5th Arkansas Infantry (The Fighting Fifth)and the 1st Combined Arkansas Infantry. He was paroled from the Army in Greensboro, North Carolina at the end of the war. What happened to John from this date forward is unknown.
Splawn, John W------John Served in Company K of the 10th Texas Cavalry. He enlisted in Texas on September 25, 1861 as a private. He was discharged for medical reasons on November 12, 1862 (chronic ulcer on left leg). According to the "Certificate of Discharge" John was born in the state of Alabama, aged 24 yrs on the date of discharge, 6 feet high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and by occupation a farmer.
Splawn, Samuel Nelson------Samuel served in the 13th Texas Infantry Regiment. This regiment was known locally as the "Bates Infantry" being commanded by a Colonel Joseph Bates. There is no record of a Confederate Veterans pension application in the Texas State Archives. He died in 1923 in Wood County, Texas.
Splawn, Stephen Edward------Stephen served in Company D of the 24th Arkansas Infantry and Company C of the 22nd Regiment, Hardy's Arkansas Infantry. He was paroled from the army in Marshall, Texas at the end of the war. Stephen received a Confederate Veterans Pension in 1912 from the State of Texas. He died in 1914 in Keene, Texas.
Splawn, Thomas C------Thomas served in the 16th Texas Cavalry. He applied for a Confederate Veterans Pension from the State of Texas and his widow, Nancy applied for a pension in 1903. He died in 1902 in Denton, Texas.
